Chainsaw Buying Guide
If you’ve ever tried to chop down a tree using only a hand axe, you understand how much of a game changer it is to have a chainsaw. Technology has improved drastically since the first motorized chainsaws were introduced in the late 1800s. If you’re in the market for a chainsaw and want some advice on how to find the right model for you, check out this guide from Southern States Milford.
Power Source
Most chainsaw models are either gasoline-powered or have some kind of battery. Chainsaws that are powered by gasoline engines tend to be more powerful and can do more work without needing a refuel/recharge. This makes gasoline-powered chainsaws a better choice for heavy duty jobs.
At the same time, there are a few advantages to using an electric chainsaw. Battery-powered models are much lighter and more compact than their gasoline-powered counterparts. They also run much quieter and don’t require a pull cold to start. If you only plan to do some light trimming with your chainsaw, then an electric-powered model might be more convenient to use.
Guide Bar Length
The part of the chainsaw that represents the active cutting area is called the guide bar. The guide bar runs from the tip of the chain to the area where the blade meets the equipment housing. In other words, the length of the guide bar determines the maximum length of wood that the chainsaw can cut in one pass. If the wood is longer than your chainsaw’s guide bar, you’ll need to make multiple passes. This can make cutting the wood much more difficult and time-consuming, so try to find a chainsaw with a guide bar at least two inches longer than whatever you plan to cut.
