Prepping your tractor for winter storage is an important step in the overall process. Without the correct preparations, your tractor is likely to come out of storage in much worse shape than it initially went in. To ensure your model is ready for the busy spring season, be sure to read our helpful winterization tips below.

Clean Your Tractor

To keep your tractor from rusting, you’ll need to give your model a thorough wash before you place it away in winter storage. Be sure to use a gentle cleanser—such as dish soap—and allow your model to dry completely in the sun before covering it and placing it into storage.

Flush Fluids

Unless you’ve changed your oil very recently, you’ll want to go ahead and replace your tractor’s oil filter and refill it with a synthetic oil blend. You’ll also want to drain your model’s fuel tank and refill it with a fresh gallon of gas as well as some fuel stabilizer. Don’t forget to double-check the coolant as well. The color should be bright and the fluid free of any dirt or debris—otherwise you’ll need to flush it completely.

Storage Prep

Right before you place your model into storage, you’ll want to remove your tractor’s battery and connect it to a drip charge or battery tender. You’ll also want to take a few minutes to lubricate any of your model’s moving parts, including attachments, hydraulic cylinder rods, and your hitch. If your tractor has tires, go ahead and top them off with air and ensure they’re at the correct PSI. Whether your model has tracks or tires, you’ll want to give them a quick inspection for any signs of damage before you finish up.
